Features and uses:
The
Chamaecyparis pisifera Sungold is a native conifer of Japan, belonging to the family of cupressaceae, commonly called "false cypress of Japan".
It has a
semi-wide, widely conical and rounded
shape. It is distinguished by the other conifers for its young and
dense foliage of yellow gold, which maturing tends to become green. The thin leaves grow on fine branches and planes, which tend to fall down.
The
Chamaecyparis pisifera Sungold has a
slow growth and prefers the sunny spaces for more leaf coloring, but it is also very well set in half shadows. Better if sheltered from strong winds, and in a damp, well-drained soil. This
conifer is
very robust and unlikely to be attacked by insects or mushrooms,
nor does it require demanding irrigation or mandatory pruning.
These features make
Chamaecyparis p. Sungold suitable for all those who do not have time to dedicate to the garden but want to have a well-groomed, tidy and colorful space. It can be used as a
single bush or together with other plants
to create mixed flowers. It fits well into the gardens from the rocky, alpine, formal and informal context.
Great combinations of this dwarf conifera are:
Chamaecyparis pisifera Baby Blue,
Juniperus Blue Chip,
Juniperus Prince of Wales,
Thuja Smaragd.
