Features and uses:
The
Chamaecyparis obtusa Pygmaea is a variety of Japanese cypress (Hinoki Cypress), a dwarf conifera belonging to the cupressaceae family, born many years ago in Japan and brought to Europe in about 1850.
This dwarf conifera assumes a globular shape and has protruding branches that, in turn, contain
small fancy branches of green in spring and
green-bronze in winter. The dense foliage is intense green and with cold it tends to become
dark green.
The growth of
Chamaecyparis obt. Pygmaea is
very slow and in time it can reach up to 1 mt. This feature favors its use
in terraces and small gardens, it is also important to remember that it does not require pruning.
By nature this dwarf conifera would like an acidic soil but it can be adapted to all types of soil, the important thing is that they are well drained. It prefers to be exposed in full sun, but it also tolerates the half shade.
