Features and uses:
Carex Nigra, native and well-developed in Asia, North America and North-East Africa, is an ornamental grass belonging to the cyperaceae family.
The
persistent foliage is brilliant green, filiform and curved tends forming a dense clump that resembles the shape of a fountain. In the autumn the long leaves are colored with gray-blue reflections.
The
inflorescence appears between spring and summer, and is formed by dark dark brown ears, typical of Carex.
It has a
fresh and humid soil, and it is also able to live submerged in 5 cm of water. It prefers positions in full sun and in optimal conditions, its height varies from 40 to 60 cm. The Carex Nigra is not subject to parasites and it is advisable to use
only one pruning at the beginning of March to remove the dry leaves and leave room for the new and fresh vegetation.
The Carex Nigra can also be used
in pots, or to make borders, or mixed blends, possibly combined with other essences such as
Festuca Blauglut, Chasmanthium River Mist,
Pennisetum Hameln
