Features and uses:
Picea abies Little Gem is a dwarf conifera belonging to the Pinaceae family originally from the north-central Europe and is derived from Picea abies, commonly called Norway spruce.
The
Picea a. The Little Gem is presented with a rounded shape and a long
persistent hairline, formed by
short and pointed leaves, looks brilliant, with darker shades over the years. Its
growth is very slow and contained and is very well suited for potato cultivation or small gardens.
It prefers
positions in full sun and
slightly acidic and well drained soils. He does not like excessive heat and
tolerates cold climates. Its
cultivation is very simple, in fact, as the other
dwarf conifers are very resistant to disease and do not need pruning.
The
Picea abies Little Gem is perfect for
making borders or small hedges to settle in
rocky or alpine gardens or to
create a mixed spring, perhaps associated with other ornamental shrubs or other dwarf conifers, such as:
Chamaecyparis l. Snow White,
Juniperus h. Prince of Wales,
Juniperus squamata Blue Star,
Thuya o. Golden Tuffet
