Features and uses:
The
Phyllostachy Nigra commonly called
Bamboo Nigra belongs to the Poaceae family and is native to Asia, specifically China and Japan.
Bamboo Nigra shows gorgeous thin, very robust and
flexible canes, which are green in color, then
become black ebony, creating a wonderful contrast to the thin,
bright green leaves. Its fronds move gently with the slightest wind creating a really relaxing effect.
The
Phyllostachys Nigra is an
evergreen and belongs to the Bamboo group with
medium growth. It is particularly ornamental for the garden, shown in a vase to create elegant barriers on terraces, to create Zen gardens, great in rocky gardens or near lakes.
Due to its
longevity,
resistance to disease,
low water demand and
poor maintenance it is also ideal for public parks, where maintenance costs are needed.
It adapts well to different types of soil and it is important to remember that, like its similar Phyllostachys Aurea and
Pseudosasa Metake, it is also great for consolidating sloping and landslides.
