Features and uses:
Panicum virgatum Warrior is an ornamental rhizomatic graminaceae, native to North America, belonging to the Poaceae family.
Its long and leafy green leaves form a tuft with a raised face, which can reach the height of about 1.20 m / 1.50 m. In autumn, the leaves take on the classic orange-red colors, while in winter they begin to dry and give an almost surreal landscape.
The inflorescence of the
Panicum Virgatum Warrior is composed of so many small flowers that form a cloud and persist throughout the winter and is called "aerial" because it appears on the top of long barrels. It is reddish-red that maturing shows wonderful silvery reflections.
Better if planted in sunny areas, it
adapts well to the different types of soils, uses
few water resources and requires
only one pruning per year, early March, to remove dry stubble and leave room for the new bright green vegetation.
Great in
formal and informal gardens, in
rocky gardens or Mediterranean environments, but also in
planters, perhaps to create small corners of privacy without having to use fixed structures.
It can easily be combined with other essences such as
Panicum Prairie Sky, Miscanthus Arabesque,
Miscanthus Adagio,
Muhlenbergia Capillaris, Carex Nigra. Or you can simply plant it as the only variety, better in group to highlight its blooming in the cloud.
